**2017 Article in English, Page 447, FOOTPRINT - Northern Spain Handbook by Andy Symington, - "Set the pace for the rest to follow", Michael Palin. - *SANTIAGO TO CAPE FINISTERRE* --------------------------------------------------------------- *ENGLISH * Santiago to Cape Finisterre - 447 - Footprint - A Corunha and Costa da Morte Listings. -A popular extension to the Camino de Santiago, and an excellent walk even if you have not completed the pilgrimage, is the three- to four-day, 90-km walk from Santiago to the west coast. Most walkers take a short first day and a longer third day - or fourth, to be at the cape in the late afternoon, so no need to hurry. -Thus, the first day is a fairly easy walk, with not-too-onerous up-and-down stretches through pleasant pastures and light woodland, some 20 km from Santiago to the small town of NEGREIRO, dignified by the well-known Pazo de Cotón, a curious stone mansion wth medieval origins, connected to its chapel by an arch. Albergue de Negreira, tel, 0034 981 886 046, 32 plazas. -The next day is a rigorous one that starts with a long, steady climb of some 250 vertical meters over the course of 10 km, and then continues with rises and descents, passing through several typical Galician villages, and via viewpoints with some fine perspectives over the green countryside. Most walkers end up in OLVEIROA with an Albergue, tel. 0034 981 744 001, 34 plazas.* 01.04.2019.* -------------------------------------------------------------- -From Olveiroa we advice 2 stages to Cape Finisterre in 2 days, later on in Spanish! -Before last Stage from Olveiroa to Corcubión, 18,4 km - 4 hours 45 min, -Last Stage from Corcubión to Finisterre, "End of the World", 15,6 km - 4 hours 15 min.- 05.04.2019.* -------------------------------------------------------------- *From Olveiroa, the last day - though there are several appealing places to break the walk - takes you 35 kms to the end of your journey. -The first section is picturesque, following the Xallas river valley, and about halfway through the day you hit the coast at CEE. -Follow on through the town of FISTERRA to the cape and lighthouse at Cabo Finisterre, 2km further along the road( - a slow and often weather-beaten uphill trudge). -You can continue a further day up the coast to MUXIA or, more dramatically, do this in reverse, adding an extra day from Olveiroa to Muxia, then down the coast to Fisterra from there. The WAY between Muxia and Fisterra is well marked both ways. -Both Fisterra as Muxia are connected to SANTIAGO by bus several times daily.*12.04.2019.* -------------------------------------------------------------- ***SPANISH * ESCAPADA A FINISTERRE DESDE SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA * 4 ETAPAS * GUÍAS ECOS *** -------------------------------------------------------------- -Etapa Santiago de Compostela a NEGREIRA, 19 km, 5 horas, -Etapa Negreira a OLVEIROA, 27,2 km, 7 horas 10 min., -Etapa Olveiroa a CORCUBIÓN, 18,4 km, 4 horas 45 min., -Etapa Corcubión a FINISTERRE, 15,6 km, 4 horas 15 min.. -------------------------------------------------------------- -Etapa desde Santiago de Compostela hasta Negreira, about 21,5 km: ALOJAMIENTO:-Albergue Acuario de Santiago de Compostela, Calle Estocolmo, N° 2, 15707, tel. 0034 981 575 438, cerrado dic-feb; 13h30-24h00, 50 pax, €7,00 / -Albergue Seminario Menor de la Asunción, Santiago Av.
