In Portugal we advise Pilgrims to pre-book one day ahead their shelter for the night. Do not forget to ask for a discount as a Peregrino, with a Valid Credencial, which you have achieved from your National Associations for about 2,00€!!! In Portugal there are about 13 Associations registered in Santiago de Compostela. We recommend to achieve your Credencial from the Registered Associations about 1 month before you plan to start your Pilgrimage. Total distance about 28+ kms between Fronteira and Crato. Possible detour by Castelo de Vide(eau minérale), about 5 km extra to Crato, on Camino to Babajoz(to Via de la Plata from Seville). In Alter do Chao one should visit: Coudelaria de Alter, Tapada do Arneiro(Stables with Lusitanian horses). After a break in Alter do Chao it is about 11+ km to Crato by the old Roman Road, now N245 for orientation.
