Alcoutim was reconquered during the reign of King Sancho II in 1240. The town of Alcoutim was not repopulated until the reign of King Dinis, who granted it a charter in 1304 and granted it to the Military Order of Sant'Iago (Saint James). Beautiful Castle including Museum. A porta norte mantém, aproximada- mente, as características primitivas.

--------------------------------------------------------------- Tavira was once assumed to have been Roman Balsa, near Luz de Tavira, as we know now. It was reconquered from the Moors in 1239 (1242?), and raised to the rank of City in 1520. Igreja Matriz de Santiago de Tavira. --------------------------------------------------------------- Igreja da Misericórdia Tavira século XVI
-------------------------------------------------------------- During the ages after the Reconquest of Tavira, Pilgrims on their Way to Santiago de Compostela, were assisted in Tavira from 1425 on, in the "Hospital do Espirito Santo", which also served as Hostel or Refugio. Inside of the Misericórdia Church, built between 1541 to 1551, in Tavira we can see on tiles (1760) the Works of Compassion, 7 from the Body and 7 from the Spirit and scenes of the Life of Jesus Christ (see pictures above). --------------------------------------------------------------

Roman Baesuris, now Castro Marim, with a huge Castle, the first headquarters of the Order of Christ before its transfer to Tomar. ----------------------------------------------------------------
Diversas canhoneiras testemunham a adaptacao do castelo medieval à artilharia. 12.03.2016. --------------------------------------------------------------- *The Mighty Fortresses(Castelo) dominates the small town of Castro Marim(Baesuris). Inside the walls we can find the ruins of Igreja de Santiago, where Prince Henry the Navigator(Infante Dom Henrique) has prayed. ----------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------- ***Since 25.07.2016., Dia de Santiago, a Saint-Statue has returned to Castro Marim(Baesuris), Igreja Matriz da Nossa Senhora dos Martires, Paróquia de Sao Tiago - Santiago Parish of Castro Marim, see photograph, Apóstolo Santiago.*** //06.11.2016.//
