    SOUVENIRS DE COMPOSTELLE.
    Depuis le Moyen Âge, le Pèlerin dispose d'un carnet, LA CREDENCIAL, qu'il fait tamponner á étape.
    Il lui donne accès aux Gîtes bon marché réservés aux Peregrinos.
    Arrivé à Santiago, la présentation de ce carnet permet
    d'obtenir La Compostela, attestation officielle de l'autenticité de son Pèlerinage.
    C'est là, pour certains, l'origine du verbe "composter".
    Désormais, la Compostela peut s'obtenir si l'on a au moins parcouru les 100 derniers kilomètres à pied (ou 200 km à vélo).
    Une autre preuve que le Pèlerin est arrivé à bon port:
    il en rapportait jadis une Coquille Saint-Jacques, que l'on trouvait en nombre sur les côtes voisines.
    Ce coquillage demeure le symbole du Saint, de la
    Ville et du Pèlerinage.
