Inaugurado en Santiago el centro internacional que "revolucionará" la acogida de peregrinos El traslado de la Oficina del Peregrino se hará de forma paulatina al nuevo centro y empezará a funcionar a principios de 2016 • EUROPA PRESS. 26.10.2015 El titular de la Xunta, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, ha inaugurado este lunes, acompañado de otras autoridades civiles y religiosas, el nuevo Centro Internacional de Acogida a los Peregrinos que "revolucionará" la atención a quienes realicen el Camino, que llegan —en palabras del presidente— "más que nunca y estarán mejor atendidos que nunca". Con una inversión que ronda el millón y medio de euros en virtud de un convenio con Turismo, el centro ocupa una parte del antiguo asilo de la compostelana calle Carretas y fue rehabilitado por la Fundación Catedral. Contará con instalaciones como un espacio de atención a los peregrinos en diversas lenguas, biblioteca de estudios jacobeos, zona y oficina de información turística sobre el Camino de Santiago y Galicia, zona para las asociaciones amigos del Camino, área de administración e información, centro interconfesional, salón de actos y capilla. También incorporará una zona de servicios para los peregrinos y con la propia Oficina del Peregrino del Cabildo de la Catedral, donde podrá recogerse la compostela. El arzobispo de Santiago, Julián Barrio, ha situado a principios de año el arranque de su funcionamiento y ha precisado que el traslado de la actual Oficina del Peregrino se hará de forma paulatina. "Depende un poco del número de peregrinos que sigan viniendo", ha apuntado, en declaraciones a los medios, después del acto de inauguración en el que se encargó de la bendición previa a un recorrido de las autoridades por las instalaciones del centro. Posteriormente, en su intervención, el arzobispo ha agradecido el "apoyo decidido y clarividente" del presidente gallego, y ha apelado, ante el alcalde de Santiago, Martiño Noriega, a trabajar conjuntamente y "sin excluir" otros servicios para que Compostela sea "capital espiritual" de Europa. Recuerdo a fraga Por su parte, Feijóo ha proclamado que, con la inauguración de este centro se hace realidad "un sueño" que parecía "inalcanzable" hace apenas 25 años. "Hoy es posible gracias a la colaboración de todos", ha sentenciado, antes de recordar la figura del fallecido Manuel Fraga y su compromiso con potenciar el Camino y la peregrinación a Santiago. En cuanto a la inversión realizada que ronda el millón y medio de euros, ha señalado que es "poco" si se compara con el "extraordinario retorno directo e indirecto" que se produce con la llegada de cada peregrino, al que también aludió previamente el arzobispo. El presidente ha concretado que "por cada euro que pone la Administración, Galicia recibe más de diez". Por ello, ha resaltado que el principal compromiso de su Ejecutivo continúa siendo que el Camino llegue a su cita del Año Santo 2021 "en las mejores condiciones posibles" y que los peregrinos que lleguen "estén mejor atendidos que nunca gracias a lugares como éste". Récord de viajeros Por otra parte, Feijóo ha insistido en las buenas cifras alcanzadas en términos de recepción de peregrinos, con las que se baten, ha remarcado, "todos los récords". Ha señalado que en 2015 llegaron a Galicia 250.000 peregrinos, "una cifra histórica que incluso supera a los años jacobeos". Por último, el mandatario ha recordado que, con el objetivo de sacar el mayor partido posible a los recursos públicos, su Ejecutivo ha aprobado el plan director del Camino, un documento que será la hoja de ruta hasta el próximo Año Santo y en el que participaron hasta 170 asociaciones y 220 personas.
